Red Dog Progressive is a card game that has its fans at land-based casinos, but it isn’t universally popular in all regions, so finding a casino that offers it could be frustrating for some land-based players. Online casino fans, on the other hand, will have no trouble finding this unique card game at online and mobile operations.
Playing Red Dog Progressive is pretty simple. In essence, on each hand the player has to guess whether a facedown card is higher than, lower than, or in between two face-up cards. The piggy-in-the-middle result is the only winning one. Bets can be raised or called, but there is no surrender or fold option. Each hand must be played to a result: win, lose or push. The skill lies in the player learning which face cards should encourage a raised bet, and when to use the progressive option.
Table Layout and Pay Table
The digital version of Red Dog Progressive looks just like it does in a land-based casino. The table, finished in wood and green baize, has a Spread / Pay Table at the top of the screen. This lists the spread, or the number of cards between two face cards, along with the payouts for a win in each case. Aces are always high, and a spread of 4 to 11 pays even money if the player wins. A win on a spread of 3 pays 2:1, a spread of 2 wins 4:1, and a spread of 1, where only 1 card value can secure a win, pays 5:1.
If the two face cards are consecutive or a pair, the bet is pushed. If the facedown card produces a pair when revealed, the player loses. If the face-up cards are a pair and the final card matches them to produce three of a kind, the player wins 11:1. This is the top win in Red Dog Progressive.
Bet from $1.00 to $100.00 Ante
At the bottom of the screen, there are Red Dog Progressive chip denominations and the betting boxes. Chips can be set in denominations of $1.00, $5.00, $10.00 or $100.00, with a maximum Ante bet of $100.00. The player sets a chip denomination and then clicks on the Ante box until they have bet the desired number of chips.
When the player hits the Deal button, Red Dog Progressive deals three cards, with the facedown card between the other two. A marker on the Spread table moves to show the player the spread between the face-up cards, as well as the payout odds if they win. The player than clicks either the Call button, to finish the hand with no further bet, or the Raise button, which adds another bet equal to the Ante. The third card is revealed, and the player is paid if its value lies between that of the two face cards.
How the Progressive Feature Operates
If a player wins a hand, the Red Dog Progressive controls give them a further option. They can either collect the win and place another bet, or let the win ride on the next hand. Since a winning Raise bet will result in quadruple the original Ante, this progressive feature can see the wins mount up quite impressively during a lucky streak. But one losing hand, of course, could wipe out the entire win, so making consistent wins on Red Dog Progressive requires a combination of luck and skill.
